Driving into a Spring Thunderstorm on the Calypso Trail in the Terry Badlands Wilderness Study Area in Eastern Montana. The Wilderness Study Area is located near the small town of Terry in Eastern Montana. The name Terry comes from Alfred Howe Terry, a general in the Union army who commanded an expedition with George Armstrong Custer against the Native Americans in the West. The Badlands are a mix of beautiful multi-colored badlands standing above rolling prairies. They are also a mix of amazing rock formations including natural bridges, spires, toadstools. mushrooms and buttes. In the spring, the badlands and gullies have lush green grasses and shrubs with brightly colored wildflowers and cactuses. The area is also a home to a diverse variety of wildlife. Petrified logs can also be found in this wilderness area.
