The downtown area is situated on an Isthmus between lakes Mendota and Monona. The entire Madison Area has four lakes which are(in order of size), Mendota, Monona, Waubesa, and Wingra. 

Madison is home to the main UW campus and the home of the Badgers. The university has roughly 30,000 undergraduates as well as over 10,000 graduate students.

For tourists madison offers a variety of things to do including the Capital building(free tours), art museum, Botanical Gardens, a free zoo, and plenty of watersports on the lakes. Fishing, biking, and hunting are also favorite activities during season.
