This bright crab is a trademark species of the Galapagos Islands, but is not unique to the islands. The Sally Lightfoot, or red rock crab, really stands out against the black volcanic rock.

Crabs are the common name for crustacean species that make up the Brachyura infraorder of the Decapods order. They typically have a very short tail, and their abdomen is hidden beneath the thorax. They usually possess a thick exoskeleton and are equipped with a pair of claws.
