Thousands of dead suckermouth catfish, commonly known as pleco or armored catfish, scattered across a dried riverbed following an extreme drought. Severe water depletion caused the river to recede completely, leaving fish stranded in hardened mud where they eventually died and dried out. The accumulation of fish carcasses also produced a strong unpleasant odor that affected nearby residents.
