Went to fish the Rock River at Fort Atkinson today. Picked a place in front of the Rock river bait shop. Put on some bottom baits and threw some flies for Walleyes. Ended up getting a variety of fish.
Went fishing at the Fox River Dam in Waukesha this weekend. Spent most of the time talking to other people about what bait they were using and seeing what was in the water. Mostly sunfish that you could use as bait to catch larger fish like bowfin. Landed a bullhead and a sunfish myself, lost what seemed to be a channel cat and saw someone pull up a snapping turtle.
Devil's lake is one of the best hiking spots in the state. It features scenic viewpoints, a lot of ups and downs for exercise, beaches, canoes, and lots of wildlife. It is one of Wisconsin's most complete state park out there. The loop around the lake is part of the ice-age trail and takes a few hours to finish, but is great for a morning or afternoon hike.
During this lockdown, most state parks in Wisconsin are closed as are many natural areas I like to visit. Magnolia Bluff is one of them county parks that are a gem to go to. With a few miles of hiking trails and a bluff to climb up to get a view of the scenery, its a great place to go until the larger state parks are re-opened.
Last week I took a trip to the UP again to see the autumn leaves for the first time. I've been up to the UP many times in the pat, but never when the leaves were changing colors. Although, I was a little early for Marquette and Pictured Rocks. The colors at Porcupine mountains and Copper harbor were all full display. Here's a video of the adventure. Picture are all available in their respective albums.
We went to Grand Tetons and Salt Lake City. The literal meaning of "The Grand Tetons" actually means "The Big Tit" and that's exactly what the Frenchmen who named the biggest mountain in the park were thinking of. Ahh, the french, what will they think of next?
Spent three days at Yellowstone National Park checking out all the Geyser Basins, wildlife, and Canyons. It was extremely scenic and there were large herds of Bison everywhere and the appearance of Yellow-Bellied Marmots as well. Great Trip through one of the oldest national parks in the USA.
We spent some days afterwards in the desert driving through Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park as well. The formations and the beauty of the natural canyons was amazing.
Its been four years since I've been to Rocky Mountains National Park and this time was just a one day drive through instead of a three day tour of the park. However, we did get some good shots of Elk in the park and one of the big Marmot Lords came out and posed for us. Giant Mountain Rats are cute:
This is the second time I'm been through the Badlands/Black Hills/Mount Rushmore area. I first came here 4 years ago but this time it was with my family. Last time I spent much more time here than this but this was a one day trip through the area. I did get a better shot of Mount Rushmore but it was closed so I could not get any closer. Devil's tower was quite a sight to behold, wanted to climb it, but don't have any equipment and the parents where there. There are a lot of Dinosaur Museums in the area.
Wall Drug is one of the biggest Tourist traps in the United States. It attracts million of people each year yet is little more than a bunch of gift shops and one(not very good) restaurant. I have stopped there twice and this time walked around the shops and ate the food there, here's how it went:
