First session of Wisconsin Bass fishing today at confluence pond. Went with worms and lures. Got 2 bass and a big green sunfish. Not the high tide of bass season to be sure, but they are active and biting.
After two weeks of trying to catch Catfish and mostly failing, I finally bagged a respectable fish on the Missouri. Fishing under Boone's Bridge at night, I finally got myself a 12.5lb blue catfish.
I've fished the Meramec River alot in the last few years but I've never caught anything over 1 pound in terms of catfish. Today, I finally caught a 10 pounder over at George Winter park after dark, making the trip worthwhile.
After striking out on several spots in the St. Louis Area this Winter, I finally went to Winfield Lock and Dam at the end of January. Cold as it was, there were still carp biting in the channel that empties out into the river and it seems to be pretty consistent in the winter.
I went to the only place that I know with fish at this time of the year, the lower Meramec. Its the deepest part of the river in that area and fish tend to gather in the slow, deep, water when the weather is cold. I managed to get 4 buffalos in two days but nothing else. But it was still fun to catch fish after so long.
As the weather turns cold but no ice is thick enough yet, I find myself headed back to Lake Columbia for some good old winter Catfishing. There's only a few years left to fish here as the plant will close down in 2026. It was worth it today though as I caught an 18.5lb Flathead.
I went to Dayton on the last warm day of the year. It was about 70 degrees with rain on and off. It started off slow but I actually caught a Brown Trout, which I had never caught at Dayton before.
Went to the Crawfish River for a day this week and fish were still biting. A lot of carp jumping and some small Pike. Was not able to land a large pike though and lost a few suckers after dark. The catfish seem to be dormant by now, however.
I haven't fished the Rock that much this year so I decided to give it a shot at Klement Park near Fort Atkinson. Was not a wasted trip. Got 2 cats, several drum, and a white bass, which was used as bait.
Today was one of my first days back in Wisconsin fishing. I went to the railroad bridge area near Sauk City to fish for big flatheads. I did not catch any big flatheads but I caught a 50 inch sturgeon. Was quite the thrill.
