I took two days to fish the Big River this week. The water temperature still seems a bit low for the really big fish to bite but I did manage to catch a lot of the small ones.
So I went to Centaur Chute followed by Klondike Park the next day to fish the Missouri and April 1st is the start of Paddlefish season and even though I was targeting blue catfish, I actually caught one of these rare fish. I also caught a few blues include a decent 9 pounder.
Went fishing for 2 days at fishpot creek on the Meramec and only 1 type of fish ever bit the hook, the freshwater drum. I did get one spotted bass off a worm but none of the lures ever got any bites. No white bass or walleye as I was hoping.
As the ice unfreezes, I went to the Yahara at Dunkirk today and it paid off. Not only did I catch the first open water bass of 2022, I also caught my first big fish of 2022 as well. Wasn't that much action but it was worth going.
I went to Busch Lakes #33, also known as Kraut Run lake for New year's eve. Daylight hours were uneventful but at night, they started to Gato. Ended up only catching two small ones but it was a decent way to send off 2021.
Went to lake Columbia for some winter warm water fishing again since I can't get anything anywhere else. Had to wait until nightfall again for the big bite and it pulled my pole into the water! I had to jump in the water to grab the pole and get the fish. It was worth it!
As the weather gets really cold in Wisconsin, we have to look for unfrozen patches of water to fish. So we come to the only heated lake in Wisconsin(at least it will be there until 2024), lake Columbia. This lake has lots of dinky little channels but also a few really big flatties which is what I was after. I finally caught one at night. It wasn't huge, but it was satisfying.
I spent two days fishing the Lower Meramec area and it was still active with fish. Only the drum were really biting but its snagging season in Missouri so I caught a decent buffalo and a gar as well.
Went fishing the last few days of the Holiday for Thanksgiving on the Mighty Missouri. It wasn't so mighty since the water is very low. I did get a decent blue Catfish but not much else except dinks and eaters. The 60lb fish still eludes my grasp......
Went to Albany for two days and while it wasn't the greatest two days of fishing, it was still a blast to fish. I lost a lot of fish that I had hooked though. In the end, I pulled up 2 pike and a bunch of suckers, including my PB Silver Redhorse Sucker.
