With the water levels incredibly low, I went to the Rock River at Jefferson. The bite wasn't great but I did manage to get a Walleye, a white bass, and large amounts of drum plus a yellow perch. No Gatofish, but maybe next time.
Decided to hop in the car and drive to Jaeger Mill at Danville today. This mill has always intrigued me for fishing. I did manage to lose several hooks and sinkers, a fly, and a spoon there but I did manage to catch several fish. Just not the flathead I was after.
So I found the little scoundrels that were taking my big Baits at night. They were lesser Gatofish(bullheads). Even with my 5/0 and 8/0 hooks, they were still taking the bait. They can get pretty big, but not the Gatofish I was looking for.
It was still cold today so I decided to stay close and went to Middleton Hills South Park. Didn't catch any fish for a while but then they started biting. I thought it was small bluegill but it was goldfish after goldfish after goldfish. Apparently there is nothing else in the pond.
Went to fish the Rock River at Fort Atkinson today. Picked a place in front of the Rock river bait shop. Put on some bottom baits and threw some flies for Walleyes. Ended up getting a variety of fish.
Went to a secret secluded woody spot on the Sugar Today near Decatur dam. Fished until after dark and got a Catfish finally. I did catch several fish but the water was low and I don't think some of the fish I was after were biting quite yet.
We went down to Dayton and while the first few fish were uneventful carps and not very big ones, my friend eventually hooked into a 47-inch Pike, a truly gigantic Fish of Death.
It was freezing with high wind today but I decided to get out and make a video. Went to the tried and true place -- Belleville to catch some carps. The first place wasn't that great but the second location around a river bend really produced the fish.
I decided to go to the remote spillway at Leland to try to see if I could catch anything but Carp. I actually ended up catch four species. Probably should have waited a week for the sucker run though, when the suckers would attempt to jump the dam.
It was ugly and rainy so I went to a nearby pond and fished near the water outlet area. The water was still a tad below 50 degrees so I didn't expect much, but the pond delivered Carp, Bullheads, and Bluegill, so I can't complain.
