Fishing at Decatur Dam's sugar river outlet, I noticed a lack of Suckers and Bass that are usually there. I got one of the small redhorses and a rock bass but nothing else. I guess Bass must be spawning and I'm not sure why the suckers were not there. However, after dark, I got a big bite by a Channel Gatofish(Catfish).
Went Gatofishing at Johnson's Creek this week and had to wait until night for things to hit but boy did they hit! I finally got a 20lb+ Catfish, my first flathead of the year! Gonna go back sooner or later to catch another!
I decided to take on my old Nemesis, the Wisconsin River this week. This river has never yielded me a fish before but that changed this time as it finally yielded me a plentiful harvest of Walleye and Freshwater Drum. I did not get the fish of legend I was looking for, but I got plenty of good fish.
I wanted to fish some Madison area ponds and lakes so I settled for Goose Lake on Saturday after the rains. Late spring is fully underway and the Crappies are shallow. Using a small jighead and a 1 inch gulp minnow, I was slaying them left and right.
Explored two different places on the Pecatonica yesterday at Blanchardville and at Darlington. I didn't get any Walleye or Smallmouth but I did get a few Gatofish including my first Stonecat, which I thought was a baby flathead.
It was a nice day today so I went first to Sixmile Creek and then Cherokee Marsh Afterwards to do some Urban fishing. Only 1 fish at Sixmile as it seems that it was still too soon for that place but Cherokee turned out to be a lot better.
Went to Cherokee Park on opening day before it gets so overgrown that its unfishable and tried casting mini hotdogs for Catfish. However, I did not get any catfish except Lesser Catfish(Bullheads). However the hot dogs attracted a lot of Big fish of Death.
With the water levels incredibly low, I went to the Rock River at Jefferson. The bite wasn't great but I did manage to get a Walleye, a white bass, and large amounts of drum plus a yellow perch. No Gatofish, but maybe next time.
Decided to hop in the car and drive to Jaeger Mill at Danville today. This mill has always intrigued me for fishing. I did manage to lose several hooks and sinkers, a fly, and a spoon there but I did manage to catch several fish. Just not the flathead I was after.
So I found the little scoundrels that were taking my big Baits at night. They were lesser Gatofish(bullheads). Even with my 5/0 and 8/0 hooks, they were still taking the bait. They can get pretty big, but not the Gatofish I was looking for.
