So, Nikon is coming out with their answer to the Canon EOS R5 and the Sony A7RIV with the Nikon Z8. It is rumored to have a 60mp sensor and dual card slots.
Sony announced its Xperia II phone today packed with Animal Eye-AF and Eye-AF. Its also got a whopping 20fps continous burst for moving subjects. Sony is once again moving the bar up for cellphone cameras.
Sony may have pulled out its trump card in the APS-C Market by pulling out a 43mp sensor. Usual APS-C camera have 24 mp sensor these days and that is a full 75% more resolution. This does raise questions about high ISO performance but for most cases, this would be a desirable APS-C Camera to have.
The much talked about Canon EOS R5, which is supposed to have 8k video is going to be publically debuted in March. We will finally get to see what all the hype is about and can it really do 8k video and have all the features in claims to have.
Nikon has taken a step forward to catching up with Sony with the release of a new firmware update that has animal eye-af and also improved overall tracking for its AF system.
Canon's 8k video capabilities in their next generation of camera have many excited. So excited that people forget to ask the "who really needs 8k" question. Features that are never used are not really necessary and besides professional movie makers, there are very few people that would utilize 8k. Recording and processing 8k requires expensive computers and large hard drives. It also requires expensive CFast cards. So its certainly not for everyone.
Canon just announced their latest Rebel series camera and it might be their last, unless they move the rebel series to mirrorless. This new iteration, the T8i features 24.1 MP resolution, 7fps continous shooting, and 45 AF points, along with a lot of options and features that are quite good for a camera in this price range.
So the development announcement of the Canon EOS R5 came out and it looks incredible. It claims to have 8k video, IBIS, Electronic Shutter of 20fps and mechanical shutter of 12 fps as well as dual card slots. This would easily challenge Sony for the top mirrorless camera spot. But how much of that is mareketing Fluff and how much is actually real?
The Nikon D6 is officially announced and .... it looks just like the D5. An upgraded AF system and a mode to shoot two JPEGS at once that are different in size and quality. That is targetted directly towards professional sports shooters. Otherwise the lack of IBIS, PDAF, and 4k@60 will prevent many from upgraded and there doesn't seem to be much over the D5. Meanwhile the new Z lenses seem to be on the cheaper side and hopefully will be more affordable to regular people.
Well, it looks like Sony if finally gonna announce a fix-lens or action camera in Feb soon, hopefully the RX 10 V after more than two years. I've been waiting for this as it will make my decision to buy an RX10 IV easier or wait for the five.
