Nikon announced 4 products on Monday. The D780, the P950, Nikkor Z 70-200, AF-S 120-300. All of them are available for pre-order on B&H camera. With this, Nikon basically announced an update(probably the last one) for the D750, a cheaper version of the p950, the final lens in completely the holy trinity for the Z mount and a really expensive F mount 120-300.
Nikon's D6 has already been Listed at B&H and the D780, the replacement for the D750 is rumored to be announced in January. This seems to be Nikon's last Hurrah in the DSLR field before they go full-on with mirrorless cameras.
Olympus, despite some rumors has stated that it is not selling its camera business. This is good news for the photo industry as a whole and especially for MFT fans as more competition is a good incentive for cameras to come out with new features.
Nikon Z finally has a third party lens for its mount in the 15mm Laowa at $749. It is mainly a lens for shooting wide angle landscapes and astrophotography but it is cheaper than Nikon's Z line of glass and the quality seems to be quite good. Hopefully the Nikon Z mount will see more third parties make lenses for this mount.
Sony has registered a new Camera and according to its 2.4ghz Wifi range, it doesn't look to be a high end model. This opens up the possibility that the awaited bridge camera, the RX10 V is finally set to come out.
Photos of the Sony A7SIII where posted on Sony Alpha Rumors showing the new video camera which is said to have 4k@120p, something that few, if any cameras have at this point. This should be a worthy update to the A7SII.
Nikon's Z50 has shot up the sales rank in Japan to #1, proving that people still want Nikon Cameras as long as they target them towards a wide audience. It will take Nikon a while to catch up, especially in the glass field, but the customer base is there.
Just barely 1 year after Canon's EOS R came out, Canon photographers are already testing out the EOS Mark II. This is a far cry from Canon's usual 4 year product cycle. Why so soon? Mainly because the original EOS R sucked.
Photokina changed from a bi-annual conference to an annual conference and while Canon, Sony, and Panasonic are going to attend, Nikon,Leica, and Olympus have passed up the trade show. Is this the end for trade snows? Has the internet replaced the need for them?
Since Canon and Nikon are being pummeled by Sony in the Glass for mirrorless cameras, Canon has come up with a solution. They are making a mirrorless camera that has both the RF and the EF mounts ... somehow. I'm not sure how this works, but if they pull it off, they will just have added hundreds of Canon lenses(and 3rd party lenses) to be available to their mirrorless cameras. Nikon should take notice and do this with the F mount and Z mount in one Camera.
