I went to Monona Bay by the Shelter to get on the ice for the little ice fishing time we have this year and despite the giant crowds that were there, the bite was on fire and I caught a whole mess of blue gills.
I went to the lower Lower Meramec and caught 2 buffalo and one big gar today. The fish were out there in numbers but many of the hits did not stick and I lost a fair amount of fish.
After a week of failure in fishing the St. Louis area, I finally decided to go fish the Lower Meramec River. I can usually snag a few big fish there but this time it was a hodgepodge of smaller fish.
For the first time in a year, I went to the Southern Fox River to get myself some fish. I fished a pipe discharge hoping the slightly warmer water would attract some fish. I did get some Carp and a Pike.
I went to fish right above the Dam at Janesville Central on the Rock River and got a big fish but it was a real struggle to put the fish in the net. The net kept getting stuck and the fish was strong.
There is a cold front coming in this weekend so I decided to go to the lower Sugar River one more time before it hit to fish. Didn't get as many bites as I thought but did manage to get a bass, a walleye, and a few catfish.
Went to Udey to see if I could catch some Pike and Bass. I did not catch any Pike but I did manage a few smallmouth and a mystery sucker fish after dark. Thought it was a white sucker at first but the coloring was wrong.
I went to the Rock River at Johnson Creek two days ago hoping to catch a late fall Flathead. I had to wait until deep into the night and after catching 2 channels first, I finally got what I was looking for, a 24lb flathead.
Went to the old boat ramp at Summer Oaks again to see if I couldn't get myself a big Flattie. I had to wait until really late but I got it! Got a lot of small pecks too on the live baits. Think if I had smaller bluegills, I could have caught way more fish.
