Whitehorse Cadet Summer Training Centre (WCSTC) is the only permanent cadet camp "North of 60". The training centre is known as Camp Boyle and is located about 20 km south of Whitehorse. WCSTC is in it's 34th year of operation with more than 250 cadets attending summer training courses each July and August. About 60% of the cadets attending camp are from northern communities, the rest are from Canada's southern provinces, including 12 cadets from the UK who are part of an exchange program. Cadets is Canada's oldest youth program dating back to 1879, with it's origins traced to 1862. Cadets is a national program for youth aged 12 to 18 with a current enrollment of 55,000. The aims of the cadet program are to develop in youth the attributes of good leadership and citizenship, promote physical fitness, and educate youth on the role played by the Canadian Forces.
